Who we are

Bermuda Cares is a community initiative based in Bermuda. For any privacy-related enquiries, please contact our Privacy Officer by email at privacy@bermudacares.bm.

What personal information we collect

When you contact us by email to share a need or offer a seed, the information you choose to include in your message may contain personal information such as your name, email address, and details about your circumstances. We collect only what you voluntarily provide and only what is necessary to respond to your request.

We do not use cookies, tracking technologies, or automated data collection tools on this site.

Why we collect your information

Personal information you share with us is collected for the following purposes:

• To review your request and determine whether a connection or resource match can be made.
• To respond to your email.
• To coordinate support between community members where consent has been given.

By sending us an email, you provide implied consent for us to use your information for these purposes. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at privacy@bermudacares.bm.

How we use and disclose your information

We will not use or disclose your personal information for any purpose other than those listed above without your express consent, except where required or permitted by law.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties.

Please avoid sensitive personal information

We ask that you do not include highly sensitive personal information in your messages, such as government identification numbers, financial account details, medical records, passwords, or any information that could place you or another person at risk. If sensitive information is required to connect you with appropriate support, we will discuss how to handle it securely.

Third-party email services

Email links on this site open your own email application or a third-party email service. Information sent through those services is also subject to the privacy practices of the provider you use. If your email provider is based outside Bermuda, your personal information may be transferred to and stored in a jurisdiction that may not provide equivalent privacy protections. By using those services, you accept that risk.

Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law. Email correspondence is generally retained for no longer than one year unless ongoing coordination requires a longer period.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from unauthorised access, use, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights under PIPA

Under PIPA, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of personal information we hold about you.
• Correction — request that inaccurate or incomplete information be corrected.
• Withdrawal of consent — withdraw your consent to our use of your personal information at any time.
• Erasure or blocking — request that your personal information be erased or its use restricted where there is no longer a lawful basis to retain it.

To exercise any of these rights, contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@bermudacares.bm. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with PIPA.

Data breach notification

In the event of a data breach that is likely to adversely affect you, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Bermuda (PrivCom) and affected individuals without undue delay, in accordance with our obligations under PIPA.
